DOPPS ornithologists and volunteers take advantage of sunny spring days to monitor the migration of raptors. Currently, we are counting birds of prey at two sites, at Volovja reber and above the Vipava Valley. The numerous Western marsh harriers (Circus aeruginosus) have been joined by European honey buzzards (Prenis apivorus) and Montagu’s harriers (Circus pygargus) since the end of April. We also regularly observe the Short-toed snake eagle(Circaetus gallicus) and the Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos).
