About the nest
The nest is located in a rock face overlooking the Vipava Valley. The hole in the rock wall is about 2 metres deep and there is a half-metre thick layer of bones on the ground, which testifies to the incredible age of this nest. Maybe many years ago, the brood that grew on this nest could still have watched the herds of Vipava’s zebras in the valley? The nest is also centrally heated, with an infinitely deep abyss opening into it from the side, from which warm air is constantly blowing.
The camera and a small solar cell were installed on the nest in autumn 2025. Due to the small size of the solar cell, the camera cannot record continuously. Therefore, when it detects The camera takes at least 30 seconds of footage of the movement and sends it to us via the mobile network. At the end of the day, the software glues together all the footage from the pr and is streaming them here on the website with a one-day delay.
The number of daily shots depends on the sensitivity, which can be varied according to the battery level. Therefore, you can expect more shots in sunny weather and fewer shots in prolonged periods of cloud cover.
