About the nest
The nest is located in an abandoned part of an active quarry, so during the day it is possible to hear machinery and work taking place in the quarry. The constant and predictable noise of the machines does not disturb the eagle owls, as they have been nesting at this site for many years. The nest is situated on a rock ledge, protected by an overhanging wall and shrubs.
The nest has been equipped with a camera since 2020. A new camera and a small solar panel were installed at the nest in the winter of 2026. Due to the limited capacity of the solar panel, the camera cannot record continuously. Instead, when motion is detected, it records a clip of at least 30 seconds and sends it to us via the mobile network.
At the end of each day, a program compiles all the recordings from the previous day into a single video, which is then published on this website with a one-day delay. The camera was installed as part of the project ZaKras – OP20.01465.
The number of daily shots depends on the sensitivity, which can be varied according to the battery level. Therefore, you can expect more shots in sunny weather and fewer shots in prolonged periods of cloud cover.
You can watch interesting and special moments in the archive of highlighted recordings at the bottom of the page and on the YouTube channel of DOPPS
